Happiness

How to change negativity into positivity.

Once you learn to control your mind, you can control your life.

So I am by no means an expert - if you feel you have a mental health problem, go to your GP and get a councillor; they can really help you understand the triggers (even when you think there are none) and help you begin create a positive mind. Or if you are worried about a friend, keep talking to them and make them see they might need some help and remind them it's nothing to be ashamed of.

"Depression is not selfish. Anxiety is not rude. Schizophrenia is not wrong. Mental illness is not self-centred. Mental illness is not a choice... but recovery is."

In the mean time, here I am with some tips to create and maintain a positive mind;

1. Don't snooze that alarm
A) according to scientists snoozing your alarm can make you feel even more tired.
B) the average adult needs 8 - 9 hours sleep so make sure you try to get it.
C) but don't stay in bed all day.
Go back to when you where three and had a schedule; I am going to bed at 10ish and I'm getting up at 7am - no excuses! Whether you sleep that whole time or not, it doesn't matter - your body clock will get used to it in the end if  you stick at it.

"You don't have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step."

2. Start your day with something positive
Walk down those stairs with a huge smile on your face grab a lemon water and while drinking it think about everything good in your life - your family, your friends, your house, your health, your plans for the day... anything.

"I love the smell of possibility in the morning."

3. Eat healthy and exercise
I can't stress the benefits of eating right and exercising; especially if you are in a negative place. If you don't want to pay for the gym - get an exercise DVD or get online and find what workout suits you. Just do it. It will help cleanse your body and your mind.

"Don't just be good to others, be good to yourself too."

4. Carry a diary around  - (the most important tip to follow if you are struggling)
If anything bad happens or if something that makes you feel down (no mater how small) write it in the diary - absolutely any negative thought or feeling. It could be a personal issue, a family issue or something as small as a co-worker using your cup. Get it down and out of your system.

At the end of the day review these thoughts - was 'Sandra' using your pen really that bad, is it really terrible you didn't tidy up today, are your friends really avoiding you, are your family always horrible to you - probably not! Writing our thoughts down can help us to see how much negativity is really in our lives.

Then we can change it all into positivity!

"Always believe something good is about to happen."

5. Be clean and tidy
Try to always clean up after yourself and hang your clothes up straight away - a clear space is a clear mind... and will also keep you busy. Typically, the busier we are the more time we have for things. Sounds weird but its so true; have you ever noticed if you have a 'lazy' day you feel even more tired. Point proven.

"Don't think about what might go wrong - think about what could go right."

6. Take time to have fun
Make sure you give yourself time to live and laugh - we can't always be serious and working. On the other hand, if you feel like your life is empty - go and find a hobby you love!

"Worrying won't stop the bad stuff from happening, it just stops you from enjoying the good."

7. Go to bed without your phone and think positive
Having a break from your phone is great - make sure to relax before bed, read a book or watch TV and just chill out. Think about all the great things you have achieved today or will achieve tomorrow.

"Happiness is letting of what you think your life is supposed to look like and celebrating it for everything that it is."

Have a good day!

50 Shades...

...of grey - fashion post.

I am so in love with my New Look crop top found here. I wasn't so keen on the ribbed look when it first hit the fashion world but in this colour and style I love it; I think it's fairly subtle... & the even bigger bonus is it was only £8.99!

I do love a crop top and this colour will go with almost anything - including these Topshop jeans. I can't rave about Topshop jeans enough, I don't buy jeans from anywhere else anymore. They always fit so nice and are super comfy as well; especially the Joni jeans.

Smarten it up with a blazer - or make it more casual with a cardigan.

I went with Primark shoes as usual... (which are only £8)

Top: New Look
Jeans: Topshop
Shoes: Primark
Blazer: old

I had a great night at TGIFridays with my girl friends. I love the food and drinks there! The bubble gum daiquiri is my absolute favourite - then Jack Daniels Salmon with vegetables and I sub the cheesy mash potato for sweet potato fries - yum yum yum.

Day 48 - fitness journey: healthy alternatives

How is the new lifestyle going so far everyone? If you started with me from day one, you'll notice we are on day 48 now! I can't believe it. If you are new the fitness side of my blog, jump on board now; its never to late to change your life.

Today I am going to be sharing a few recipe ideas with you for healthy alternatives to our well loved dishes - some I personally have always done (but I have noticed other people don't) and some are new to me as well!

It is important to have a balanced diet so your body gets all it needs to function properly but it is always handy to know some alternatives for when we have hit our daily limits - I will do a portioning type post and also a food groups post another day.

Oh and I will be posting recipes for all of these and more over time but let me know which ones you would like sooner rather than later?

Meals

Sweet potato is a great alternative to ordinary potatoes - you can do anything with them... bake them and make fries or mash them... the options are endless.

Butternut squash cubes are amazing too (my newest favourite!) Although they are difficult to peal and cut - I clearly need to go work on my arm muscles - but you can buy pre-cut cubes or chunks... Or heat them in the microwave for a minute to soften a bit.

Carrot & swede is a good for an alternative to mash as well and in my opinion is so much nicer. The only issue is again the swede is quite hard to cut but you can buy pre-cut versions.

Zoodles - courgette or carrot... or both... or lots of other things I'm sure are a great alternative to pasta or to add into salads to make them more exciting! To make these you need to invest in a spiralizer as I have just done and I don't regret it at all!

Cauliflower - pizza bases, quesadillas, etc etc. Fun and healthy - who knew!

Dinner sauces - don't use jars; make your own (I will do some recipes soon) or use tinned tomatoes.

Snacks

My latest brownie recipe is the best thing ever... you need to try them - they are an amazing alternative to any unhealthy snack. I will be posting tonnes more snacks for everyone to make over time - the key is to always have them around for when those cravings kick in (I need to remember this point as well!)

0% Greek yoghurt is also a winner - you can put your protein powder in it, or granola, or fruit... the options are endless. I have started adding it to my porridge in the morning to get some extra protein.

Drinks

If you have a lot of milk, try to replace it with unsweetened almond milk or other similar alternatives.

If you don't love ordinary water, try coconut water or fruit infused water instead to make sure you are getting enough liquid without all the added sugars of squash or fizzy drinks.

REVIEW: Benefit Roller Lash

Benefit's new Roller Lash product has hit the shelves thanks to Elle magazine.

Benefit's website states that: it’s a roller for lashes! The eye-opening Hook ‘n’ Roll™ brush grabs, separates, lifts and curls…while the instant curve-setting formula holds for 12 hours.

So let's find out...
(I used the same technique both times with no eye liner so you can see the full effect - the lighting is bad at night but hopefully you can get the idea).

My usual mascara (Maybelline)

& after 12 hours...

Benefit roller lash with they're real on top.

& after 12 hours...

Summary

As you can see the Roller lash did make my lashes look slightly longer and also lasted longer. However, I think I will still be looking for a cheaper dupe - as the difference isn't huge for the price you pay for Benefit products.

Would I buy a standard Benefit Roller Lash mascara at full price? Maybe. I'm still undecided. Have you tried this mascara yet?

REVIEW: Your Tea: Tiny Tea 14 day TEAtox

As promised here is my review of Your Tea's Teatox - I'll keep it short.

If you read my initial post (here) - you'll know I absolutely love tea and needed a little kick start after Christmas and then having the flu.

Essentially, the tea did the job I wanted it to.

Was I disappointed? Yes.

The 14 day teatox helped me get back on track; I had slipped into bad eating habits when recovering from the flu, I was feeling sorry for myself and kept reaching for the biscuit tin.

So when I got the teatox, I cut out all chocolate, biscuits and sweets (etc) - which actually wasn't difficult (shock!) I kept going to the gym and generally eating well, as I usually do anyway, throughout the whole of the teatox.

I am now in a place where I'm not eating the unhealthy snacks and I'm not jumping straight for breakfast in the morning (this was my biggest challenge). So the tea helped me achieve what I wanted it to.

However - I lost no weight or no bloating (in fact I was more bloated if anything), my skin didn't change, I had no more energy than I do on a usual day etc etc. All the claims of the product had zero effect on me. This was a huge disappointment; I was hoping I would get some other small benefit.

Basically, I love tea and got a good deal on the product, so I have no regrets - but I would say that if you're not a herbal tea drinker this product will be a huge shock to your tastebuds! Even for me the tea was strong. All in all, would I bother buying it again? no.

Have you ever tried a teatox?

Neutral lip

Hi everyone,

So today we are talking lips.

I recently decided I wanted to try out a neutral lip colour - however I wasn't 100% sure if it would suit me so rather than spending a fortune on Mac or another big brand, I thought I would go into Superdrug and check out there cheaper selections.

I stumbled across;

1. Collection Lip Definer in Nude Pink

2. Collection Deluxe Lipstick Shade Charleston 3

& I absolutely love them! What a bargain and a gorgeous colour. It was exactly what I have been looking for.

It lasted longer on my hands when I was testing them all out than any of the other brands they had in my local Superdrug. And to be honest it was the nicest colour as well!

If you want a fuller lip look, I definitely recommend you try and get a matching lip liner as well as the lipstick... I can do a YouTube video on this if anyone wants me to; let me know. These two products, although look slightly different in the above picture, actually blend really well together.

I think I may go check out Collections foundation range as well as I need a new one and it is so cheap. Considering I don't wear make up that much, it runs out of date before I've even used half (or its so old I don't even remember when I opened it!)

Have you tried any of Collection's makeup?

RECIPE: homemade vegetable soup

Hi everyone,

I thought I would share with you one of my many vegetable soup recipes today.

This is not very helpful but I basically make them all up depending on how I feel - so you can do the same! I often just grab all the leftover veggies and make soup that way.

I don't have a lot of time of my hands so I do sometimes grab some pre-cut veggies as well (carrot and swede in particular) from Tesco in the fresh section which I can't find the link to but I found this frozen mix which looks good too. I also usually use frozen spinach which I have in my smoothies too (and will talk more about this in a smoothie recipe in a couple of weeks).

This specific soup has the following ingredients:

Swede
Carrot
Onion
Leek
Mixed beans (which I think is kidney, butter and cannelloni)
Cauliflower (including all stalks)
Spinach
A garlic clove

NOTE
No portion sizes because it really depends how much you want - maybe start off with a handful of each and see how long it lasts you? - I use less leek and onion than the other ingredients just because I don't like them but you can't taste them - and also spinach which I don't like on its own, tastes yummy in the soup.

Method
On a Sunday I usually mix up a batch of soup ready for the week - it's so easy.

You just get a large pan and put the vegetables in that take the longest to cook, almost cover them in water then add a stock cube. Add each vegetable as time needs. Then use a hand blender to blend the soup to whatever consistency you like, let it cool and then store it in the fridge.

Then I pour some into the saucepan when I want it and add all the herbs and spices I fancy that day - as I mentioned in this post I always include cayenne pepper (and usually black pepper too). Sometimes I might add in some basil and some days I might add in something else! It is really up to you.

Heat the soup on a really low heat until piping hot - usually about 5 minutes.

^ There's me cooking my individual portion and deciding I want it mixed up a little more that day. Blending in a lot of spinach turns the soup a horrible green colour usually but it still tastes good!

One of these will last me the whole week for my lunches; but again its personal preference on what you like and how much you fancy!

Let me know if you make some vegetable soup or feel free to ask me any other questions.

I will do another soup recipe with exact measurements and sweet potato (so yummy) in a few weeks too.

Storage
I have soup (or salad) every day for lunch at work but we don't have a cooker so if you're in the same position as me or are often out at lunch, I definitely recommend getting one of these Thermos King Food Flask. It is amazing.

I get up in the morning and make my tea but with extra water in the kettle to pour into my flask. Then I get ready and make my soup just before leaving at 8am. I empty the hot water (which has been in there anything from 15 - 45 minutes) and pour my heated soup straight in. When opening it at around 1 - 2 pm the soup is too hot for me to eat!! It truly keeps the hot, hot.

I also have Thermos King Flask for my tea which I do at the same time as my soup and it is piping hot all day! It is definitely worth paying a bit extra for these Thermos products as they do work perfectly.

Primark navy lace...

Hi everyone,

It's finally time for another fashion post!

I found this beautiful navy lace top in Primark and it has just made me super excited for spring to arrive.

Top; Primark.
Trousers: old; skinny cigarette style.
Shoes: Primark.
Bag: old.
Bra: Primark.

This will be the perfect outfit for lunch with my friends when spring comes around. The lace top is only £10! They also have it in a gorgeous cream colour. The detailing is beautiful and works fine with just a bra - alternatively you could wear a skin coloured vest underneath or the right size navy t-shirt. It stands out with these white trousers but also looks great with jeans.

I am so in love with the shoes as well which I did a whole post on here. I think Primark have totally upped their game lately - you need to get yourselves down there! I will be buying new white trousers this spring too as I just think they are a must have.

Pay day wish list

Hi everyone,

So seeing as I haven't done a fashion post in a while and payday has just arrived I thought I would do my first ever wish list.

There's so much nice stuff out at the moment, particularly because most shops have just launched SS15 - I am so excited about summer already! & there are so many sales still going on... so here are a few of my current favourite items that I totally need to buy.

I am dying to get my hands on these babies but I am going to wait until I go to America as I am sure they will be cheaper.

I love Sabo Skirt and I need this playsuit for the summer... Its so perfect for holidays and has a really low back. Beautiful!

I am a huge fan of adidas originals but for the price they are, I fear I cannot pull them off quite as well as the models always do... but HELLO ASOS SALE!

Why I haven't brought this clutch bag already I don't know...

I love bomber jackets but this velvet style is so different and only £15!

More boots... I didn't actually love this style at first but seeing lots of bloggers pairing them with amazing outfits has so made me want a pair! You can get them for around £40 on loads of websites.

In LOVE with this colour - how perfect for valentines day...

If I could buy more coats I so would...

This jacket would be perfect for spring

I could go on forever (I'm so not obsessed with fashion) but there's my top picks for today! What are you going to buy this pay day?
